About Me

I have more than forty years’ experience in copyediting, substantive editing, and developmental editing of nonfiction material, including eleven years as a freelance editor.

Topics of particular interest to me are languages and linguistics, science, engineering, law, politics, human and veterinary medicine, history, biographies, and world events and cultures.

Freelance Work

As a freelance editor, I had a steady flow of work from publishers such as Naval Institute Press, Georgetown University Press, Rowman & Littlefield, Bureau of National Affairs, and Gallaudet University Press.

Highlights: National Press Books in Washington, D.C., invited me to work with U.S. Senator Paul Simon (D-Illinois) on his 1994 book, We Can Do Better: How To Save America's Future—An Open Letter to President Clinton. In 2003 I earned recognition as a coauthor for my developmental editing of an article published in the Journal of Homeland Security.

That combined experience allowed me to take on the role of production director for a nonfiction publishing house, where I managed freelance copyeditors and proofreaders to bring to market as many as forty new books a year.

Full-Time Work

As a full-time employee, I have worked for consulting firms and contracting companies that support clients in the military, Department of State, and Intelligence Community. Most recently, I supported scientists and engineering researchers by editing such things as conference papers and briefings, white papers, technical reports, articles for submission to peer-reviewed professional journals, and study abstracts.

Interests and Hobbies

After I graduated from the College of William and Mary with two majors, linguistics and German language and literature, I was granted a visa that allowed me to live and work in West Germany for two years.

Much later, I fulfilled a pair of lifelong dreams: learning to ride and owning a horse. I and my equine partner of twenty years, an Andalusian gelding, enjoyed competing in regional breed shows and local dressage events.

As part of my equestrian experience, I had the pleasure of working for a year as a veterinary technician in a large-animal practice. I retain an interest in veterinary medicine.

Currently, my activities include working as a stained glass artist, reading, playing piano, gardening, and traveling. My husband and I have two cats (rescues); and I support rescue organizations for cats, equines, and farm animals.
